National Chorale’s inspiring Holy Week reflections
The National Chorale of Jamaica sang spiritual Lenten songs, including parts from George Handel’s Messiah Parts II and III, in a stirring performance on Monday evening during Holy Week meditations at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Vineyard Town. The beauty and harmony of vocals blended with the grandeur of piano notes under the deft fingers of Stephen Shaw-Naar.
The chorale’s performance of Phillip Kern’s arrangement of Angels Through the Night and Harry Dexter’s arrangement of Beethoven’s All in the Evening and Beautiful Saviour, which provided a delectable lunch before intermission, demonstrated vocal sensitivity and variety.
